REV (レヴ) is a Japanese vocal for the DeepVocal engine created by VOCALO Revolution founder and ZAN-SHIN Co., Ltd. CEO HirotoP (ヒロトP) in collaboration with Yuma (ユウマ), Kemonone Rou's developer, and ATSUYA [2], Kuro Bousuku's developer.
History[]
REV was an original character unveiled on the VOCALO Revolution official website in May 2011 and was intended to be a male counterpart to the VOCALOID3 vocal CUL. He is described to be about 18 years old [3] and similar to how CUL used the voice of VY1 in music videos, REV was meant to use VY2's voicebank. A 3D model for MikuMikuDance by Kio was also released soon after his introduction.[4][5].
In September 2020, it was revealed on Twitter by Hiroto-P REV was planned to become a VOCALOID like CUL, however, progress on the project fell through.[6][7] On May 14, 2021, the REV reboot plan was announced.[8] REV received a speech library for the AI text-to-speech synthesizer TALQu on May 23[9][10] and a beta singing library for the DeepVocal singing synthesizer on May 24.[11][12]. He is voiced by Hiroto-P himself and a commercial voicebank using a proper voice actor or singer is being considered based on his popularity.[13][14]
Etymology[]
His name, REV (レヴ; Revu), likely comes from the word "revolution" in reference to the company VOCALO Revolution.
Appearance[]
REV is a young male with tan skin and red hair. He wears a black suit with red trimming and matching pants. Underneath, he wears a grey long-sleeved shirt and a black and red-trimmed hat with a pair of silver/grey wireless earphones on his head .

Marketing[]
A free MMD model by Kio was originally released on the VOCALO Revolution official website. While the original website is now unavailable, the model was re-released on Kio's Blog on May 14, 2021.
