Etymology[]
Calypso - From Greek Καλυψω (Kalypso), which meant "she that conceals", derived from καλυπτω (kalypto) "to cover, to conceal". In Greek myth this was the name of the nymph who fell in love with Odysseus after he was shipwrecked on her island of Ogygia.
Donoghue - Several spellings of this important Irishsurname can be found. It is an Anglicised form of the Gaeilic 'Ó Donnchadha or Ó Donnchú' - 'descendant of Donnchadh'. The Gaelic compound 'Donnchadh' was a personal name composed of the elements 'donn' meaning 'brown-haired man' and 'chadha' a 'warrior or fighter'.
Background Information[]
Calypso Donoghue is a powerful and greedy witch with a love for fashion and beauty. She uses her wide range of magical abilities to scam unsuspecting people out of their money by performing false exorcisms with the help of her demonic slave Akane no Oni. When she is not performing fake exorcisms, she's running several businesses under many different aliases and selling magical products on the black market for top dollar. She's by definition a sociopath and thus feels nothing for the people around her, but she seems to maintain a strict moral code despite her shady business practices.
